Farms: Zambian sisters do it for themselves

Sisters Alida and Lofta Zulu work the small-farm they inherited from their late father, and produce vegetables that they sell in the local market in Chipata, Eastern Zambia. The sisters are members of a vegetable production commodity group that is being supported by Self Help Africa, and have received training in irrigated horticulture and in conservation agriculture methods. Conservation farming is important as it is critical for the women to ensure that their single acre plot remains fertile, and the existing wetland does not dry up and leave them without a source of available water. I am proud that all hope is not lost in the motherland. Maybe if the people in all 54 countries of the entire continent start thinking for themselves, become very productive and self-efficient again like our ancestors and fore-parents did, we will still have a chance to become a very wealthy, dominant and a well-advanced nation again.
