This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Using new technology, farmers can grow food anywhere on the planet.  Not only can we grow grains, fruits and vegetables, we can grow great tasting and healthy protein rich foods.  I grow shrimp and tilapia in the middle of an oil field.  There are groups that are growing crickets and snails in the deserts of Africa.  We farmers can grow traditional crops and some non-traditional crops anywhere in the world.   Richard Hawley is a 4th generation Wyoming farmer.  His family farm, RH Farms, grows traditional crops in Powell, WY such as barley, oats, sugar beets, pinto beans, but has branched out into shrimp, tilapia and specialized fruits and vegetables in Midwest, Wyoming.  Richard and his wife Beth are the parents of 2 adopted foster kids (and have fostered 40 or 50 foster kids over the years).  They have been featured on shows like 20/20 and The Katie Couric Show, have published a children's picture book and currently own four businesses in Wyoming.  Richard attended college for computer programing and went back to college later in life for a business degree.   About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
