Recently, my wife and two children had a break from the busy city life and stayed at a wonderful cabin in West Virginia. The Cabin is named Wilderness Ridge Farm and is located at 12570 Cornstalk Rd., Southside, WV 25187. Though my family has stayed at other cabins and bed and breakfasts, what makes Wilderness Ridge Farm so unique is that it is tucked away at the top of a mountain that borders a state park. It’s definitely very quiet and provided a nice peaceful break from the busy city life! As you can tell by the pictures, this cabin rental is beautiful inside and out. As a two story cabin, it has plenty of room on each floor. On the ground level floor, there is a comfortable living room area with a wood burning stove and television. The kitchen, which I unfortunately did not get any pictures of, is also on the main floor. Imagine taking your kitchen with you as you travel and this is what Wilderness Ridge Farm provides. The kitchen has a full size modern stove and refrigerator, microwave and even a dishwasher. There are plenty of utensils, dinner plates, cups and everything we needed for a short stay. There’s even a coffee pot for those of us that enjoy sipping a nice cup of coffee while overlooking the beautiful land. Also on the first floor is a large dining area and accommodating bathroom. If you notice in my pictures, Wilderness Ridge Farm’s second floor (the loft) is also very spacious, even with four beds. On the second floor alone, eight people can sleep comfortably. The deck off of the second floor offers a spectacular view of the tree line and large pond. There’s also a television on the second floor, but the view off the deck offered more entertainment than any program could offer. If you are a city dweller like me, spending some time in the country can be quite rejuvenating. Wilderness Ridge Farm has trails cut for hiking and the pond is stocked with fish. They also have a paddle boat for those that want to get out into the middle of the pond to relax or fish. Right next to the pond is a large gazebo too, and they had binoculars there for those who want a closer look at the deer and other animals that live on the mountain. In other words, the environment and amenities let you get up and close with nature. When I stayed in the cabin, I noticed they also offer a hunting lease package that allows hunters to rent the cabin and also gain access to hunting on Wilderness Ridge Farm’s property. The private property and adjacent state land is clearly mapped out. With over 100 acres of private property, and being right next to a state park, I can see why sportsmen would want to stay at Wilderness Ridge Farm. There’s no question about it, Wilderness Ridge Farm’s cabin is strategically located in a great area for hunters. Although when my wife and two children stayed in the cabin it was nearly 90 degrees at the hottest point of the day, we were able to quickly cool off inside the cabin. Yes, the cabin is air conditioned and has plenty of ceiling fans that produce a gentle breeze. I could only imagine how beautiful the scenery looks like in the fall and winter! Whether you are looking for a quiet romantic getaway, a nature based family adventure or a cabin to rent in West Virginia during hunting season, I would recommend visiting Wilderness Ridge Farm’s website at http://www.wildernessridgefarm.com to view all their amenities and current rates. Trust me, my family and I really enjoyed our stay!
