If you watched the first few episodes of the TV show Heartland I want you to ask yourself would you and your children like living in those conditions? Before you answer remember there is no camera crew to split the wood and shovel the poop. Heartland also realistically shows that even with a family of three they still have a hired hand and it is a full-time job to keep up with a small barn full of horses. Season 1 of Heartland DVD set ( http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0033HKDY0/ref=as_li_ss_til?tag=dsarti1-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as4&creativeASIN=B0033HKDY0&adid=1Z4SAN13Y8885VJ8ZNPN ) By purchacing the DVD here in the USA it sends messages to companys we want this types of programing here in the USA

In the UK its not only farms going under. Fishmonger, fruit and veg, bakery, electronics stores, corner stores, pubs/bars etc. All getting slaughtered by supermarkets like tesco, aldi, lidl, morrisons, asda, co-op, sainsbury and the list goes on and on. The government give these supermarkets planning permission on a daily basis to build more but then you try to build a shed in your garden and they refuse to give permission. We are forced to use solar pannels in new homes now, pay for water by the gallon and heating costs a fortune. You have tons of people here who dont flush their loo anymore, dont wash and sit in freezing cold rooms in bad light because the energy efficient bulbs are a pile of crap.

When whistleblowers released Federal Fusion Center documents stating that returning veterans, Constitutionalists, Libertarians, AND property rights advocates. In the Soviet Union when communism took over, the farmers were hold outs against communism, so Stalin collectivized them. Agribusiness, and GMOs are taking over the US food supply.

you should see how things are in australia. they get a dozen guys and look after a ranch FIVE TIMES THE SIZE OF TEXAS. we have farms here ( we call the big ones stations ) that are like that. bigger than some european countries. if you've worked in the vegetable industry as I have, you'll see 85% of food going to waste (most 2 inches "too big or small"), english farmers burning wheat over their quota, good oranges and vegetables fed to cows, veges ploughed into the ground, etc, etc.

as long as the grocery stores shelves are full people are blind to just how fragile the system really is.
-
Low on your costs for that equipment.
-
How can you walk on that? OSB seems like you would have bloody feet from the blisters and stray wood in your feet.

The ant and the grasshopper. They only care when times get hard. Grasshoppers die in the winter. The ants live on lol

The yeoman farmer has always been the backbone of a free and strong nation, and it is why they always attempt to break them first. Been trying to get people to go and farm etc, our 350 acres in WV for the last 20 years, and nada. Can't do one person by themselves that is for sure.
-
I'll tell you what D, you let me get an acre to drop a house I'll help ya run your farm .

Small family farms are just like any small business, Corporate America has killed or takin over it all, including the individual family. Have you ever checked out the percentages of broken home in America? it is at a all time high 73% in the black community, we are at a crossroads as a people. The people have to wake up, it all starts with the lord Jesus Christ!

Dave, a person can go 20 days before real starvation and irreversable damage to the body sets in. 3 days youd be weak and craving food but you really wouldnt be starving. About the 8th day of not eating your body starts going into self preservation eating away your muscles. Yep, been hungry in my life time but the good Lord provided beans and potatoes to my poor mother for 365 days. Really, thats all we ate. Starving is like the kids in africa eating mud pies. They sell for 5¢ a piece.

You could eat that food you have stored in your garage. You dont have to starve Dave. Dont you have beans rice and flour? The beans and rice together are a full protein source. You can make bread with your flour. And you could start asking people in your area for lumber to finish your floors. People throw wood away all the time. Put an add on freecycle in your area. Youd be surprized. Farm fresh eggs are $3 a dozen in my area. That could give you some income. Put em in freezer if feed cost is up

The dif between farmers of the 1800s and today is that the farmers in the 1800s farmed most of their goods for self sufficiency and they had large families to help. The excess was sold to pay for other goods they needed through the year. Today the farmers( most) are in it for the profit. Oh, and dont forget about monsanto now owning most of the seeds and heirlooms seeds that farmers use to use are going extinct. That could be another reason our farms are going extinct. Not laziness.
