The first museum in America dedicated entirely to slavery opened a few months ago in Wallace, Louisiana. Michelle Miller visits the museum and found a surprising history, not only about the plantation, but her own family.

Slavery was not just in the southern United States but in most of the Americas. Brazil and other South American countries had more slaves.

6:28 I think it's important for the general public to understand that college can be a debt trap for many people. It's over all a good thing, no doubt. But "college" is not always the savior. What will save a group of people in poverty is allowing and providing them access to systems of participation and involvement coupled with their desire and ability to act appropriately. (I realize college is a "must" for certain job markets though, and I don't argue against those necessary paths of college involvement (and payment) too much.) Here in America the main problems are a justice system that self-perpetuates negative cycles of 'criminal' involvement with minorities (and some whites), and a social landscape than can allow unfair powers to be vested in those involved in a corporate system. i.e. The full effects of modern discrimination are much more background oriented, and are not so much tied to what I like to call "up-front" racism.
Ahhh... back to the lecture I was watching from a prestigious college... and I get to involve myself... fo' free.
