Farms: What's It Like To Move To Hawaii?
Productivity | Information | History | View | Quality
We all would love to move to Hawaii, right? Well that's just what Evan Rock, LA Fruitluck founder and Woodstock Fruit Festival presenter, did earlier this year, buying an abandoned fruit farm on Hawaii's Big Island. Ryan asks Evan to share his advice and experience to help people who are interested in moving to Hawaii. What kinds of jobs or work is best for island living? Can growing your own food help keep your costs down? In addition, Evan tells us his plans for his new property. And there may possible be a Hawaiian Happy Healthy Vegan retreat in the future? Check out Evan on his YouTube channels: https://www.youtube.com/user/FruitZen https://www.youtube.com/user/evantherock HAPPY HEALTHY VEGAN: Delicious high carb recipes. Health gurus & myths exposed. Would be nice to have an organic farm commune in Hawaii!

Please stop building out of wood in the tropics. You're obviously an outside the box thinker. Use earthbags or tires or some other much more durable and weatherproof option. Wood is expensive, unsustainable, and foolish given your climate. PLEASE.

How much was your land? And around what are? And island? I want to buy land for my family.

I live on Oahu. Hawaii really is a great place for growing food. We several fruit trees, as well as a few bushes of things like tomatoes and herbs, and my brother in law's grandpa grows apple bananas but they are the biggest bananas I have ever seen. This is because their property used to be a vineyard, so the soil is ridiculously fertile. But you can bet that his apple bananas are just as sweet as regular tiny apple bananas.

I have lived in Hawaii (Oahu) for 10 yrs and let me tell you. it is beautiful and a wonderful place to raise a family. however, it is very very expensive living there. so prepare yourselves, it won't be easy if u don't have a good career. alot of the locals there built these huge houses and move the entire family there. if ur not one of those people that like sharing their residence just be prepared. if u have a good job and u wanna try it out. go for it. you will love it!

The local produce is expensive though now. Farmers are making their prices go up because they need the chemicals to grow the food and get rid of pests...dang it, what happened?
