Brothers Jerry and Terry Cooper say that their watermelons are some of the sweetest in the country. These Alabama farmers will bring in hundreds of the bright green melons.

Those are beautiful watermelons. I have grown melons in Pennsylvania. The season is too short. Some melons are started in high tunnels and left to run out the sides of the high tunnels. God bless the farmers that feed the world.

Most Americans think this type of labor is beneath them and the people who are willing to do this job for pennies on a dollar are being kicked out because we think they are stealing our jobs. Sad state of affair when fruits and veg are going un picked out in the field thanks to idiots like Obama and his pals.

I've planted some watermelon this year.....They seem to grow fast. However, they are getting yellow leaves next to the ground (where I water them). Is this bad, and how can I stop it?

I want to eat that last mellon. Here in Los Angeles the last watermellon that I ate from a grocery store that didn't tast like a dish rag was in the 1980's. Im growing my own now, cant wait. JCisL

I sell mine right out of the front door. Got customers buying 5 to 6 at a time. Spend 12 -14 hours a day in the field. Hard work that's got satisfaction built in.

Take note people. This hard working American farmer has to diversify his products because he's not hiring illegal immigrants and growing melons require intensive manual labour. He's ultimately going to get outdoned by corporate farming because they do hire illegals. Is this what you want?

One complaint they had was that it is hard to find people to this type of hard labor. That's true! Some young people especially don't want to do this type of work! Hard working Americans like these are a dying breed! Living here in Mississippi I really appreciate their hard work! Brings back a lot of memories I shared with my grandfather!

It is sad, that you can not buy a real watermelon such as shown in this video in any market where I live any more. You used to be able to tell what part of the year it was just from the variety of watermelon was for sale. Not any more, texture, and flavor have been sacrificed for convenience in the form of the foul tasting clones seed less watermelon yuk.

A nice family operation. Wish I could grow yummy watermelons like that. Here the raccoons run off with the fruit every year. Good luck with your crops this year.

This report is a bit lacking. What happened to the parents? Did their health decline to a point that they couldn't do the work? Did they die? That part shouldn't have been left open. Other than that it was a good piece. But I can't help wondering what happened.

yeah Watermelons grow on their own in Alabama. Awhile back I planted some and now they grow on their own every year.

I helped with about an acre and a half harvest last year in Southeastern PA, and man is that some work. I'm planting about a half acre myself this year on my farm in Northeastern PA, we'll see how well they turn out.
