Fresh-fresh kale and brussels sprouts are way down on the list of foods you might associate with food banks, but the employees and volunteers at Mother Earth Farm in Puyallup, WA believe that shouldn't be the case. After all, shouldn't everyone have the opportunity to eat healthy? Mother Earth Farm grew over 100,000 pounds of produce last year, every ounce of which was distributed by Washington's Emergency Food Network to food banks all over the state of Washington. Using organic farming practices and labor from employees, local volunteers, and also incarcerated women, Mother Earth supplies Washington's needy with much-needed nutrition. This Rite in the Rain Field Portrait offers a brief glimpse around the farm and into their philosophy. Comment with suggestions for subjects of future Field Portraits!
