The Permaculture Action Day was supposed to be about transplanting the Urban Farmers Collaborative farms at Sustainability Park that are being evicted. But something more happened. And my friend, Nick Gruber of Produce Farms, was caught in the middle of a very awkward situation between the police and some tiny home activists. Listen in while he shares his perspective, and where urban agriculture and tiny-home converge. Nick Gruber has over 17 years experience in landscaping. He received his Bachelors degree in Environmental Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder. His degree led to a professional researcher job in a study called "Growing Gardens for Healthy Communities". They interviewed over 1,500 households in Denver in order to explore the social, cultural and ecological experiences and values specific to gardening and how these factors can influence mental and physical health. The research led him to an opportunity to help promote neighborhood environments through increasing and ensuring access to fresh local organic food in Denver by working for Produce Denver. Produce Denver had their most successful year in during the 2015 growing season where they harvested almost 32,000 pounds of food for the Denver Public School system.
