After 3 bad years of farming, it was too much for a Georgia farmer to take. He believed by taking his own life the insurance money would save the farm that had been in his family for over 100 years. Taking his life was a hard enough blow to the family, but when the insurance didn't pay, they were at a loss. Dear Editor,
After hearing rumors of Donald Trump saving a widow's farm from an action in Waynesboro, Ga.I became motivated to find an Aug.2, 1987 article in the NY Times about the widow Annabel Hill and her husband's suicide.
The fact that Trump was instrumental in minimizing tragedy of the suicide of her husband ,Lenard ,was heart warming. But how he helped to buy time and halt the auction so that the $180,000 shortfall was met is a testament to Trumps abilities to see an injustice, react and "make a deal"; qualities we need, to run this nation.
When it was all said and done a public fund drive raised $101,000 , Thomas McCamy donated $38,000 and Trump came up with $46,000 which left Mrs. Hill with an extra $5,000 for legal bills.
The fact is Trump acted on this tragedy and the Kennedy's, Clinton's , Hollywood Crowd didn't. I know his detractors will say, he did this 30 years ago to help him fool the public to become president. Some will say, why didn't he give the lady the whole $180,000! The socialists will say why didn't he buy the farm at auction himself and give 700+ needy families an acre of land?
I'm glad I got to the bottom of this story as it dissolves any reservations I still may have had in voting for Mr. Trump! -

Mr. Trump could have easily bought the farm for cash if he wanted to but he offered to negotiate with the bank, stop an auction from occurring and even got others to help work out this good deed too. The man is SINCERELY good. It would be rare to find a billionaire to roll up his sleeves and do some heavy lifting himself to help a poor family in need these days, all while running the affairs of his business empire.
