Moved to Hawai'i 3 years ago and have not bought a cavendish in probably 2 1/2 years now. They have there purpose in commercial ag. but when you have better options grab an apple or other lesser know type and see the deference.

I'm no vegan, I'm not even vegetarian, but I really enjoy growing things, especially fruits and vegetables, I enjoy growing unusual and heirloom varieties to impress friends and family as well as to pay homage to my ancestors whom were farmers, so it's like he said, it's not always all or nothing.

I usually don't eat bananas because they seem bland to me, but if I eat them it's mainly in cereal or smoothies. I like the "mini" bananas. They seem to have more flavor. I got organic bananas a couple times and they're a little better, but not too much. I wonder if they'd grow good out here in Southern California?

Because of your videos, I have a couple dozen plus Heirloom vegetables, mostly tomatoes, various squash, different cucumbers, hot peppers and melons, not to mention leeks, okra and tomatillo. I just started this "obsession" this Spring. They were all on sale at the Home Depot and are being grown with organic soil. I started putting them into washed/rinsed food grade buckets until I have the means (soil, etc.) to transplant them into a raised bed. I actually planted five melons on the side of our house after getting my whole family to help pull out the weeds and condition the soil. Before I purchased all these veggies, I bought like five different bare root fruit trees 50% off at THD too. I wish I didn't misplace my receipt, because the fig tree didn't seem to "make it" and Home Depot takes back plants that aren't growing within a year with the receipts of course. Oh, well you live and learn. But I do have all dwarf fruit trees including Santa Rosa Plum, an Apple variety (from Israel, don't remember the name), Royal Apricot, and Pineapple Quince. I feel like eventually I want to purchase a Lifetime tumbling composter like you have. I actually found a good deal on one on Craigslist, but I can't get it right now. It was an 80 gallon for $100. I want to get a business license to sell my produce at the local Farmer's Market at the community college. Well, just thought I'd inspire other people who view your videos out there in YouTube land.

Thanks for the walk through. I feel like you should do these more often when you visit various farms. In previous videos when the camera is on the tripod we don't really get a good view of the farm/garden but the with the walk through we get to see much more!!

Hawaii is wonderful - a taste of heaven right here on Earth - you are so lucky John to get to go there - I'd love to visit Hawaii just to see all the different plants and they have so much fruit there it appears :) - Ruthie

I heard banana trees are anchoring points for ghosts and other wandering entities. Don't be surprise of weird noises, and even howling in your yard after planting them.
