Mid of two dead horses 9. SOUNDBITE: (English) Dr Jose Garcia Blanco, Medical Director Equine Practitioners Veterinary Clinic "I will not give a horse to somebody that I don't think it's a good home for them. In that case, if I don't have any other choices, then I think the better choice is to destroy him, to be put down. You know, if you drive around Puerto Rico, a lot of times you see horses that you know are thoroughbreds that were probably at the track and were probably given away. You see them and they're full of ticks, they're this skinny and they're not well-cared for. Well that shouldn't be a choice." 10. Wide of horses next to stables 11. Close of horse LEAD IN: Horse racing is big business in Puerto Rico, but geographical limitations of the island make it difficult to house retired horses. Some retired horses are put down to save land and money. While some others are rescued by farm owners and put up for adoption. STORYLINE: Race horses on the tranquil caribbean island of Puerto Rico live a charmed life while they are racing. They are meticulously cared for, groomed, fed on a special diet and even have their own swimming pools. The clinic has both digital X-ray and an ultrasound machine. The horses died minutes later.
