Farms: The Most Interesting Thing I've Ever Done

Join us in celebrating 10 years of Nerdfighteria in Boston: http://www.nerdconnerdfighteria.com I went over-time on this video, but I still don't know that I was able to do this topic any sort of justice. First, I have to say that I said "I" a lot in the first paragraph because I was focusing on my own life but, of course, I had a lot of help doing those things I did (most of all from John.) Second...we've had ups and downs in the strength of this community, and it's also a certain amount of scary for me when it seems like the focus of it is not as much values and goals, but me or John as people. There's a weird line between being the doorway into something bigger and more interesting and getting...stuck in the doorway. I want you to like me, but I don't want you to be here for me. I want you to be here for whatever message I'm sharing that day, whether it's one of joy and silliness, or of compassion, or of knowledge. But I also think I can sometimes be distracted from the importance of what we're doing here on Vlogbrothers by all of the new things that this community has allowed us to do. And since Vlogbrothers is still just me and John, while our other things have whole teams, it's easy to get dragged into those things by the great ideas those teams are having. Which is a bummer, because I don't want to be distracted from our work trying to figure out how cohesive and constructive community can find new ways to exist as the old ways are working for fewer and fewer people. Thank you for an amazing 10 years...good god, how lucky am I... ---- Subscribe to our newsletter! http://nerdfighteria.com/newsletter/ And join the community at http://nerdfighteria.com http://effyeahnerdfighters.com Help transcribe videos - http://nerdfighteria.info John's twitter - http://twitter.com/johngreen John's tumblr - http://fishingboatproceeds.tumblr.com Hank's twitter - http://twitter.com/hankgreen Hank's tumblr - http://edwardspoonhands.tumblr.com

Whatever the punishment ends up being, my vote is it has to occur at Nerdcon Nerdfighteria
-
A. Can't wait to see you get punished live come Boston. B. I am excited and a little nervous for how overcome with emotion I may get there. Watching videos like this where y'all talk about how far nerdfighteria has come and the community it's created....I always end up crying. Being at the ten year celebration with others who love this community so much? I fear for my tear ducts.

"I don't know what I'm doing" speaks to me on multiple dimensions

I was an ass first time i had a child

Individualism, for the various good things it has accomplished has also had some highly detrimental effects. The biggest, in my opinion, is that individualism in a society functions a lot like the loss of herd immunity created by vaccines. Or to phrase that another way, communitarianism functions like herd immunity and individualism undermines that. When you live in a communitarian society you can count on the rest of society to cover certain things for you. Children, for example, can play in parks without parental supervision. The elderly don't have to be secluded in medical facilities. Caring for the mentally ill or the differently abled is distributed. Whereas, in and individualist society all of these challenges are faced by individuals alone, or fall upon individual caregivers tasked with sole responsibility. Individualism makes us collectively more vulnerable.

This year has been both my best and worst year ever. The worst thing that ever happened to me happened in spring of this year. Let's just say that I had been around some toxic people for a while, and it all came to a head. But this fall/winter has brought about some better people with whom I am entirely joyous. And Nerdfighteria has been there through it all. When everything in my life was awful, when I alienated myself from every group of people I socialized with IRL. But Nerdfighteria was ALWAYS there. You guys, this community, as well as Hank and John, and YouTube as a whole, kept me sane and grounded until I found people IRL who could do the same. Thank you guys. Thank you all.
Happy New Year! May 2017 be hella awesome! -
I wandered in and out of many online communities over the years, specially on forums and IRCs. Now I'm holding on to a Discord server full of nice people.

When I first started watching vlogbrothers, it was a kind of distraction from my everyday life. Nerdfightaria was fun and funny and sometimes thoughtful, and I appreciated the escape, but it's a different place for me now.
As I've gotten older and both my world and the world as a whole has become more tumultuous and frightening, this community has become a kind of lodestone. It is still a place where I can escape, sometimes, but it is also where I can explore morality and enthusiasm and kindness and humanity in a way that I don't feel is often available in other places. It provides me with focus on who I want to be as a person, and shows me the kinds of people I want to surround myself with and be inspired by. So thank you, John and Hank, and all of you fellow nerdfighters, for the inspiration. -
I think you guys are awesome, and you give us hope in a very troubled time. Keep doing what you are doing!

I think this is one of my favourite videos. I really liked the discussions about this community and community in general (online and offline). I'd love to watch another video on the same topic.
I agree that focusing only on leadership/individualism overshadows the importance of many other things. Like being a follower and a contributor to a community. -
Right now, I'm loving all the stories in here. Sincerely. Cheese doodle guy level excitement. As part of the Road to Nerdfighteria team, we are working to share and collect the origin stories of Nerdfighters on the channel and what Nerdfighteria means to to us because this community is so freakin awesome. I feel like a better person by watching your videos. When ever i feel down, like, really down, when i am afraid of falling again in a type of depression, i come back to you and your ideas, where i can remember who i am and who i want to be

I have met so many people throught this community. I have brought so many people into it. I have known people for years and then suddenly learned that the entire time they had also been a part of it. This community got me through high school, and depression and anxiety and loss and has been here for me longer than most of the people I currently know irl. Thanks everyone.

My goal this year is finish my bachelors and apply to medical school and volunteer with Doctors Without Borders
-
My goal for this year is starting a "church." We need community, we need each other, and we need spirit. My closest friends and I have talked for years about how there is no religion for us. We believe in unity and knowledge, that you should help each other and teach each other, and that we have more ability to create what we need than we ever have before. I would rather go to a skill share than a scripture reading any day of the week (scripture is totally valid for some people, just not me). I've looked to you brothers for years because of your community building power. Keep encouraging us to do more and be more and love more! <3

I've been following this community off and on for about 7 years now. I have not contributed anything to the ideals of the community, but I do enjoy the ideas that have been acted on, as well as all the silly, cute schenanigans that you two have shared with us over the years. The past decade has seen a lot of great things come out of this particular project, and I look forward to seeing what we can do in the future. Congrats, Hank, John, and Nerfighteria on the 10th anniversary of this series. Here's to the decades to come!
I love nerdfighteria.
After p4a this year a few nerdfighters created an awesome group chat. we're writing in the chat everyday and I really got new friends from all over the planet. (also we spend much time sharing hilarity gifs of you and your brother 😂)
