Portsmouth's 'First and Last Working Farm' to be sold at Auction Portsmouth, NH -- A significant parcel of real estate and Portsmouth history will be going on the auction block Wednesday, July 30th. Local auctioneer Paul McInnis, Inc. has been retained by the Hett Family, to sell their home and farm at 305 Peverly Hill Road. Many Portsmouth residents know the distinct white farmhouse and accompanying red barns that sit high atop the hill as you drive along Peverly Hill Road and have stopped to watch the horses roam the large front pasture grounds. Eric & Susan Hett decided that the best way to offer the property for sale was the same way their grandfather purchased it: at Auction. "A property as unique and special as this farm fits our auction marketing platform very well," according to company President Paul McInnls. "Often times, rare properties such as the Hett farm coupled with its history are sold at auction to let the market determine value rather then set a fixed price. We are able to give wide exposure to buyers that may not otherwise know about this opportunity, but do have interest and we invite them to participate. " History & Operation The property has been operating as a farm since owned by Thomas Walford in the 1600's as part of a much larger parcel known as Walford Plantation. It has been in the Hett Family since 1940, when Eric Hett's grandfather, John Hett purchased it from the bank at an auction, and it is believed to be the first and last working farm in the City of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The Hett Farm totals 39.70± acres running along and to the south of Peverly Hill Road. Included with the property is a two-story, circa 1810, Colonial style, 2,722 ± sq.ft. 3-bedroom home and two barns which have capacity for up to 17 horses. In addition to the fenced pasture at the front of the property there are multiple rings in the rear including an over sized riding ring measuring 250' X 150'. The City of Portsmouth Assessor's office appraises the value of the property at $1,176,000.; but what is the 'first and last remaining farm in Portsmouth, New Hampshire' worth to the bidding public? That will be decided on July 30th at the auction where registered bidders will be required to have a $50,000. deposit check to bid their price on the farm. The auctioneer will offer inspections of the property Tuesday, July 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and Wednesday, July 23rd from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. For additional information, interested parties can go to www.paulmcinnis.com.
