Farms: The Engineering Behind Smithfield's Sow Housing Conversions

At Smithfield's Hog Production Division, all pregnant sows on U.S. company-owned farms will be housed in groups by 2017. Dave Elkin, the division's director of engineering, discusses the conversion process and takes viewers on a tour of Southern Pines, a new 8,000-sow farm in Garland, North Carolina. He is joined by Farm Manager Anita Bereza, and both also share their personal stories.
