Community Solar is a system under which anyone can own and invest in solar power. under a community solar model"plots" are sold at a centralized solar farm and individuals/small businesses are able to buy into the system. Through virtual net metering customers are credited for the power that their system generates. Jonathon Fletcher is a proponent of self-reliance and a believer that everyone should be concerned with how and where we derive our energy from. When his family takes a hot shower they love knowing that their hot water was heated from everlasting power of the sun. Currently Jonathon works for Mirasol Solar as their NE Florida Director. Under Mirasol, Jonathon wrote several proposals and received two awards for 500 kw solar farms which are to be built this upcoming year and next here in Jacksonville FL. On a personal note, Jonathon loves gardening, kayaking and spending time with his human family as well as his dog family and considers them all as one. Community Solar in Florida is still DEPENDENT on changing the laws to allow 3rd Party ownership of solar generation equipment, which then enables Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). WIthout changing the "Territoriality" laws, like Georgia did last year, there will be NO SOLAR MARKET in Florida because it requires a Special Purpose Entity (SPE) to sell power to subscribers via PPA. Community solar is a great fit in NY, MA, CO and other states, but with no real incentives and a very low electrical costs from traditional fossil fuel plants, Over 200,000 Floridians signed a petition to put the Solar Choice Amendment on the ballot in 2016, which will finally give citizens a choice in how solar energy is purchased, leased or used, but it is being fought tooth-and-nail by Koch Industries and the incumbent utilities. If you know anyone in Florida, ask them to vote YES on the SCA in November and to avoid the astroturf organizing of Koch funded front group "Consumers for Smart Solar", which is dedicated to confuse, spread disinformation and defeat the Amendment.
