A farm Snail Land is established in Jēkabpils area, rural municipality Krustpils, Spunģēni where two types of snails are grown ('Helix Aspersa Maxima' and 'Helix Aspersa Muller') under controlled circumstances and delivered to the European Union countries. During the initial stage of our company Snail Land a testing batch of snails were delivered for reproductive needs. This marks the beginning of learning and gathering of experience to grow the snails already in industrial amounts. For this reason we purchased a farm which we reconstructed within the period of two years. Warm premises for the reproduction of the herd was established, hatcher, freezing cameras. Simultaneously with the construction works of the farm we visited two large snail farms in Poland and Lithuania and there we studied on-site because our climatic conditions are similar so we can use their experience also in Latvia. Latvian climatic conditions are suitable for fast fattening of snails during the summer period. Besides snails are quite modest and does not require special care. You don’t need large areas of land and many employees to grow snails. This activity can be a business of one family. Alongside with the catering sector snails are also used in pharmacy and cosmetology. Cosmetologists are interested in the characteristics of snails not for granted – they are attracted by the fact marked out by the professional snail growing specialists. It turns out that people having frequent contact with snails have faster wound healing abilities, also their skin looks younger.
