Featured On: http://thepermaculturezone.com - Sepp Holzer's son Josef walks us through his family farm called the Krameterhof. Fish ponds, productive terraces, fruit trees and grazing animals characterize the lush landscape in one of Europe's oldest and most well established permaculture farms. http://thepermaculturezone.com

Can this be done in Nova Scotia?

What a smart young man! The place is beautiful! I'd love to visit it. Thank you!

I really wish there was a border around the subtitles because a lot of the time it blends in the background and I can't read what he's saying :'(

I have watched this several times and learn something new each time. I am trying to model my permaculture farm after these ideas. My question about terracing is with the cost of equipment to move so much earth and rocks, how is it cost effective to grow some grain and fruit? I"d like to try it just for the joy of it but economically does it work? I also question the amount of manual labor to keep that place in pristine condition. My farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC would turn into a jungle in no time. We are in a temperate rain forest. Anybody have comments on this?

Thank you. Beautiful. If they can do this in such harsh conditions, imagine what is possible in more friendly latitudes...

Really inspirational !..and utterly beautiful.Just watching it allows a little hope to flow back into me.

This is great and all, just keep in mind this single family is utilizing 45 hectares, or 111 acres, for this. Using some 2013 numbers, that's over $321,000 at an average US land cost of $2,900/acre. Not to mention whatever other taxes you'd be paying on top of it. Also, I've never lived anywhere, even surrounded by farmland, where land was going for less than $5,000/acre (disclaimer: I haven't lived everywhere).
I'd really be interested in seeing someone currently implementing a self-sustaining farm on a sub-10 or 20 acre property, if anyone has a lead on something like that. -
Eventually human beings will understand that industrial farming and animal husbandry + monocrops is disastrous for the environment and public health (and last but not least cows etc grazing freely grass are happier too!)
What's happening to the bees as well shows that we cannot apply to agriculture the same rules big corporations follow.
Awesome video: inspiring -
This is absolutely amazing!

Hey, this video was made by Richard Perkins from Ridgedale Permaculture. You might want to credit him...

+The Permaculture Zone I was only mildly interested before I started watching. And then about 5 minutes into it, I was riveted and stayed that way until the end. Among the many truly remarkable things in the video, maybe the most amazing is that, despite this extraordinary example of what is possible, only about 10+ people have commented on this video after a year of being posted. We very seriously have our values and priorities misaligned as a society. To Josef and all involved, thanks for being such an excellent example for the rest of us.

Such an amazing farm. A paradise, really! And such a handsome young man. Josef looks like the absolute picture of good health and sturdy build, like we dream of folks being who were raised in an abundant lifestyle of wholesome food and healthy whole-body exercise. I cannot imagine a more ideal way to live.

I like the bit about growing rye over two years . 100 years ago it was common practice in England to sow wheat in the autumn and let it grow all winter and then graze with cattle or sheep in early spring when there was little else . the grazing made the wheat"tiller", that is produce extra seed heads and thus a bigger yield

Excellent presentation and thank you for sharing your valuable experiences. We Americans could learn a lot from your methods and success.
If you ever have too little rain, you could easily utilize a series of Ram Pumps to raise water back up to higher elevations. -
