This video gives my take (opinion) on the world famous Sea Foam combustion engine treatment additive. Often people reach for Sea Foam when something goes wrong with their car. They believe flushing the motor out with Sea Foam will fix it. Not likely, especially with a well maintained vehicle. This aggressive motor treatment can flush unwanted deposits, crud, buildup from the inside of your motor or fuel system. It will not fix broken parts.

I spent much on mechanic cost. Car Past at the mechanic shop but failed one block from emissions. I went home and tried Seafoam. went back and passed with low numbers.

No vacuum leak or pvc issues on V70. Perhaps need to re clean more carefully TB and or remove it to clean with new gasket? Also on 2001 C70 how often should Castro Edge Syn be changed when use is only 1000 miles per year?Last change was 2 1/2 years and 2000 miles, oil was slightly dark. Car only used for Sunday drives. What do you think? Thanks for your information.

Robert, not sure what CEF means .... there are no error codes. What's CEF?

Very informative video Robert like many of your other videos.Got loping idle on 2001 V70 non-turbo. Used throttle body cleaner on cloth and q-tips on air intake side of TB while in place. Did not remove TB. Still lopes but not as often. Will sea foam remove deposits if sprayed into TB while running engine? Not sure I want to remove TB to clean as need new gasket to replace TB? What do you think?

I put a half can in my crankcase and pour the other half in my tank. I change the oil within 50-100 miles afterward. I own 5 cars, they all run like tops, and 3 of them have over 100k miles on them, running fine. Engines need to be cleaned. Gasoline and oil both leave carbon deposits everywhere in your car, the intake, the crankcase, fuel injectors. This keeps things clean, and shouldn't harm anything in the motor as long as you don't leave it in there. I do it religiously at least 50 miles before I plan to change my oil.

Sea Foam was invented for 2-stroke outboard motor boat engines. It is oil based. Had you poured some through the engine while it was running, you would see tons of smoke come out the exhaust. Many think this is do to deposits being removed. It is not. It is the Sea Foam burning. Much better product is Berryman's Chemtool B-12. It can be used either as a fuel additive, where it does a great job cleaning injectors and valves; or as a crankcase additive where you add to dirty oil and let it idle in your driveway for 30 minutes and then change the oil and filter. I have used it both ways for 30 years and it does great!

Thank you Robert. That was very informative. I appreciate your time at making the video :)

you realize the chemistry is from 1932. A backyard chemist made a solution for his motor-boat. that's what you're talking about right here and why it's called seafoam. It's mostly Lube with some solvent and gasoline stabilizer full wet conditions on a boat. That's what you're putting in your car engine. I would use it in my lawn mower or snowblower that's where it belongs. but a modern engine should get a modern cleaner

cool man, good looks

Are you a mechanic ? Thanks for clearing this up !

Engine cleaning products are bad for use in high mileage cars. If you haven't been using it since the car was new, stay away from it.

Thanks for the info. I have several older vehicles that could use such attention. One of those is a Suzuki Samurai that is spending most of its time 'guarding' my driveway. As you may know, those things are usually not fuel injected but carbureted. Replacements seem difficult to find and I feel a good cleaning may help instead of having the thing rebuilt. Any input on carburetors? Thanks

I use kerosene as a motor flush. $1.00 per quart and a pint will work.Seafoam: Main ingredients are Naptha, Diesal and Alchohol. Mix your own ho made version.

you will have carbon buildup...you can change your oil every 3000 miles and yes you will have carbon buildup....and seafoam is a very good product..
-
I don't put nothing in my oil, but through the vaccum line and fuel tank is good.

It seemed to help my old car. I'll have to do it again
