Farms: Say no to Fish Farms in Ireland
Productivity | Information | History | View | Quality
There is a new massive fish-farm in the pipe line off the coast of the Arann island, Inis Oirr. Fish farms have caused massive problems all over the world for indigenous species of salmon and sea trout. There has been a massive decline in sea trout stocks in counties like mayo and clare in the Republic of Ireland. The reason BIM are putting this Fish-Farm forward is because of pressure from the goverment. The Irish goverment need good news stories, they want to be seen to create jobs and this project is a fast way of doing so. Any one with some interest should Google Fish-Farms and see the devastation all over the world that they cause. Sea lice is the main problem. I have caught numerous Salmon and Sea Trout down through the years absolutely covered in Sea Lice. This Fish-Farm is going to heighten an already huge problem.

depends on what type of fish farm it is,somme dont polute the enviroment like the recirculating intensive sistems,i designed a small rainbow trout this year that is 100 percent ecological and fish are fed with pellets but indeed ,in asia fish farms are really enviroment killers, especially because the fish farms there are fed antibiotics and if waist water with antibiotics go in the natural enviroment it can develop resistence in microbes

Fish farms are better because they can control the killing there for leaving the wild ones alone and letting them multiply and live happy at the end of the day fish is good for us everyone no this we need to eat it one way or another so i say yes to farms

Good video. U cant deny the harm fish farms do to the native fish and also the seabed under the cages! They do employ a few local men but no where near enough to allow them to be used!

To be honest i did not think they would reopen the river for fishing this year.... another thing the anglers should be looking at is the landslide which happened a couple of years back on the Semeragh... that completely destroyed the salmon future stock!!!

I've been fishing for salmon and sea trout on the feale for a number of years now and have seen first hand a dramatic decrease in the number of sea trout running the river, and the run of salmon this year was the worst seen for many years. If the wild fish are to stand any chance, these farms must NOT go ahead.
