Rich and Cody Baker’s shared interest in community outreach has made Riverside Apple Farm a popular seasonal destination for visitors from across southwestern Michigan and northern Indiana. The young couple recently opened their Riverside Apple Farm to their Sturgis-area neighbors for a firsthand look at how America’s favorite fruit is produced. The 30-acre orchard is a popular place this time of year, with a variety of u-pick apples and two of the fruit’s most popular side products—apple cider and donuts. “It’s important for me as an educator to teach kids where their food comes from and just some general knowledge of the country,” Cody Baker said, “instead of just thinking that everything is just paved roads and street signs.” Riverside Apple Farm will stay open to the public through Nov. 30.
