Husband and wife team up together to create a business, that would focus on the distribution of locally grown Zambian foods. A few challenges the encountered were getting the produce from the farmers, located in the remote countryside, along with creating a process to maintain modern standards for food quality. This is when Sylvia discovered the concept that initiates her new business, she would ask the local farmers to dry their crops at their own farms, which made the produce more practical to transport for her distribution business. In return Sylvia would train the farmers on solar drying for crops, along with classes on hygiene. Regional non-profits supported by foreign aid had offered such training like Sylvia's in the past, but little result. The organization would pay the farmers a certain amount of money and offer to train them and teach them valuable techniques of preserving foods, clearly this was not a sustainable way of training the farmers because for as long as the farmers were doing for the purpose of getting the monies, they were not doing it for the overall interested in it. So the Sylvia Group decided they needed additional motivation, perhaps a greater income for training and produce preservation. Farmers would not be paid to simply attend the training sessions, but at the end of the season, if their produce passed inspection, the Sylvia Group would purchase their entire crop. Resulting in a major turnaround. The end result was quite clearer, the farmers were able to sell their crops to Sylvia through her program, they were taught lifelong skills which helped them to advance their farming skills and would also allow them to continue to bring enough profit to their household to care for their families.
