Farms: QuickBites: Urban Gardens

Urban agriculture/gardening is becoming increasingly popular in San Francisco. We look at 3 programs that are contributing to the uniqueness and success of this thriving community. *The first program is about the Recreation & Park department's Community Gardens program, who manage over 30 neighborhood/community gardens in the city. -http://sfrecpark.org/park-improvements/urban-agriculture-program-citywide/community-gardens-program/ -https://www.facebook.com/sfrecpark *The second program is the Department of Public Work's Urban Harvesting Program. They go around to SF trees (homeowners or city owned) and "glean" the fruits from these trees, that would otherwise go to waste, to be given to local homeless shelters & soup kitchens. -http://www.sfdpw.org/index.aspx?page=1243 -https://www.facebook.com/sfdpw *The third program is a non-profit, The Free Farm/Free Farm Stand. Up until December 2013, managed a large 1/3 acre urban farm on Turk & Eddy, the former site of St. Paulus Lutheran Church, where they have grown over 3.25 tons of organic food that they have given away for free, since 2010.
