The Lewis family of Hillsdale County will host a Breakfast on the Farm from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at their Pleasant View Dairy farm in Jonesville. The breakfast, which is free and open to the public, also includes a farm tour as a fun way for people to learn about where their food comes from. Find event details at: http://www.breakfastonthefarm.com/find_a_breakfast/hillsdale_county_pleasant_view_dairy_jonesville_mich The family-run farm is owned by Bruce and Jennifer Lewis and operated with help from 23 full- and part-time employees plus a fourth-generation of farmers — Lewis’s children: son Adam and his wife Kayla, daughter Brittany, and son Conner. Pleasant View Dairy milks about 700 cows, each producing 6 to 7 gallons of milk a day. The family farms 2,700 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat and alfalfa, with a portion of the crop used to feed the cows. In addition to the dairy, the Lewis family owns and operates Westacres Farm, a U-Pick and ready-picked blueberry patch next door. Caring for the environment, their animals and food safety are top priorities, which is why the family is proud to be verified in the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP). Bruce and Jennifer Lewis are active leaders within the agricultural community. Jennifer Lewis currently serves as District 2 Director on the Michigan Farm Bureau board of directors.
