Young females calves that were taken from their mothers within 24 hours of being born. The calves are forced to live in the cages for the first 3 months of their lives. Then they are moved in with other "heifers," or cows that have not had their first calf. They will be artificially inseminated at only 18 months of age (a year and a half). Their mothers are separated from them and kept in a separate barn, where the milk that was meant for their calf is stolen from their bodies. They are hooked up to milking machines twice a day and produce around 8 gallons of milk that is used for human consumption. This is a "small-scale" farm located in rural Pennsylvania. Many people are under the assumption that local means humane. This footage is to show the truth about the lives of innocent dairy cows.
