John Jessup of Our Fertile Earth in Jacksonville, FL, demonstrates the construction of a hugelkultur at the Tour De Farm Event in Jacksonville, FL. The location is the Urban Folk Farm on 14080 Normandy Blvd. I shot this video with a pair of video sunglasses and it is unedited. I apologize for the shaky video! Thanks for the assistance, Mary.

Forget about companion planting? BAD ADVICE, companion planting is the cornerstone of permaculture and sustainability

I have a question regarding this:
Given that this is Florida where we have a big problem with nutrients leeching into the water system, wouldn't putting a bunch of high nutrient and hot materials into a hole just be also accelerating the process of nutrient leeching? Yes eventually the growing plants will be able to use the nutrients of the biomass breaking down, but between the time of application and the time that the roots are long enough, all the nutrients from those manures will just be leeching through our sandy soil and into our water table. Algal blooms don't care if the excess nutrients they get are from chemical or organic sources. Either one is good by them.
