Farms: Organizing a Coral Farm: Coral Labels
Productivity | Information | History | View | Quality
I have forgotten more names of corals than I currently remember. The obvious solution is to start labeling everything so I started in on a bit of a craft project. What is important in a labeling system is something I could just place into an open spot in a frag tray so I can quickly glance at the names rather than rack my brain trying to remember which orange and green zoanthid this one was. Coral frag trays move around a lot here from tank to tank so the labels have to move with the corals. Did the same thing with my labeling. I guess the saying "great minds think alike" is true. Heh.

Great idea... and may I ask if there is a name for the rhodactis at 0:29 (thumbnail pic)? I have the same ones but did not know if it has a name.

Than, find someone with a CO2 laser engraver. Trophy shops have them, you might even find a local maker space that has one. You can get lots and LOTS of labels engraved and cut out of quarter inch thick acrylic in the same amount of time that it takes to punch just a few with that Dymo hand squeeze label maker. Yes, it will cost some bucks but not nearly as much as the time you burn with that hand squeeze label maker.

I think I would have used a touch of crazy glue as I suspect over time the backing on the tags will wear out. That said, great idea!!!!
