Hello, I have wanted to kayak around the Island of Jamestown Rhode Island for some time but didn't have the physical endurance to do something this challenging or the hardware to make it happen. This year that changed. I increased my physical fitness training and upgrade my hardware to a North Shore Ocean 17.6 (17 feet 6 inches) kayak with Werner 200 cm carbon fiber paddles. Though making this loop is a challenge I increased it by doing it in as little time as possible not knowing there was going to be high wind during the southern section of this trek. The southern portion was approximately nine miles with wind coming from the south heading north east. It took me a little over five hours with only two ten minute breaks while fighting 20 mph sustained winds with what felt like 30 – 35 mph gusts. The wind was so intense it kept pushing me toward the shore and rock cliffs. It was all I could do with edging techniques to keep my bow heading south. When I would stop paddling my forward momentum stopped within 2 to 3 seconds and started to get pushed back. Despite the obstacles of sea swells, distance, and wind it took me 5.25 hours after subtracting the two ten minute breaks to travel the distance of 20 miles. I averaged 3.8 mph. It was more challenging than I had planned but all is well that ends well. I consider this an accomplishment. Some recommendations for my videos have been to add music, narration in some form, and to have me in it so I have obliged. The Go Pro camera is not flattering so don’t judge me. I thought the outtakes were funny, especially the one where the wind almost blew the camera off my car. The weather report said 10 mph winds, what a joke. I didn’t realize how hard it is to be on camera. This took a lot of time to compile. It would have taken me less time but the Go Pro studio software kept crashing despite my i5 quad core with 8 GB of RAM. On top of that the software kept corrupting my saved files so I had to keep starting over. I think I’m going to upgrade to an SSD drive. Great, that means I have to recreate my OS build. This is probably the best video I have made so I hope you enjoy it. Be well, Kurt
