Farms: Northern farmers in Ghana received compensation under Ghana Agricultural Insurance Pool (GAIP) 16

The General Manager of the Ghana Agricultural Insurance Pool, Alhaji Aliu Muhammad Ketu has urged small and large scale farmers to enroll onto the Agric insurance program. According to him, over one thousand rural farmers in the northern region insured under the Ghana Agricultural Insurance Pool have received compensation for suffering loses on their farms. The Ghana Agricultural Insurance Pool (GAIP) was initiated by the Ghana Insurers Association with support from the German Development Corporation in 2009 to address the socio-economic cost and risk associated with climate change in agriculture. The project was also to provide economically sustainable agricultural insurance solutions to protect farmers and other players in the agricultural sector in the event of crop failure due to extreme weather conditions such as drought or excessive rainfall. Speaking in an interview, the General Manager of the Ghana Agricultural Insurance Pool, Alhaji Aliu Muhammad Ketu emphasized on the essence of agric insurance. He further urged poultry farmers to insure their farms to minimize their losses in the event of a disaster. He revealed that some farmers in the northern region have received compensation for their loses.
