"Grasscutter is one of the delicies of food in Nigeria today - rich, protaenous, and tasty," says Odunayo, holding the bush-meat or GrassCutter up by the tail. Nigeria Food: a tour of a Bush-Meat or GrassCutter farm in Lagos Although the animals look big with large teeth, they are not dangerous and, in fact, can be quite friendly to humans. The farm we visited raises about 100 families - which means about 500 individual GrassCutter animals! And also, runs training courses for others interested in Bush Meat farming. "If you want to know what Grasscutter farm is all about you have to learn on an existing farm - so you can learn about the species, the feeding, caring and management," explains Ismail Abdulazeez, the owner of the farm. Grasscutter can grow as big as 9-10kg and Ismail insists its a "very profitable venture" - and his main customers for this Nigeria food are hotels, eateries and other farmers. Overhead expenses are cheap as well because they mostly eat grass and a few supplements. "It's a passion," he says.
