With the new Minecraft snapshot enabling melons to grow on untilled dirt or grass, we don't need a huge bud-switch contraption for each melon seed. Try using a daylight sensor instead of a button. have it cycle a timer when the sun comes up and goes down. Fully automatic

2 rows of SIX pistons* not seven. I spoke too soon tho, good job correcting it later lol

Note: this design can also be repeated to allow more melons if on the seventh block you drop down one, this will let the water flow forward seven more blocks, repeat as much as you like!
