still is best to use original design because you can make it faster and harvest it faster.
technically yes, this is more efficient space-wise, but after you've made like 300k typically its a good idea to just abandon your cane farm, gen a base and make a cactus farm in the bottom of the base. it isnt worth your time to continue to harvest the cane farm. all comes down to time, nobody cares if they make a mess of more land -

You can farm the 2 row sugarcane farm sideways and with speed you can do it even faster ;)
