Wowee! Look at that mane!

He is so cute! I think right now he wants you to stay & protect him form the big, bad female goat. He has some growing to do to catch up to her. Is he the same breed?

Hi, Patara: I have a few questions if you don't mind, as I'm looking forward to getting a few goats as we simply do not have the acreage to sustain a dairy cow (as much as we'd love fresh cow's milk and veal).
1.) Does "lots of babies" translate into a.) fresh milk (i.e., drinking, cheese, or soap, etc.) or b.) fresh, tender meat or c.) both?
2.) If you use a mineral/salt block for your critters, which for which and why? (I recall my Dad using a deep red mineral block for our Nubians and a light green block for the cows), but I never truly understood why...he said they were like large vitamins, but he'd also lay some broken chunks for the deer that inhabited the acreage behind our house in East Texas.
3.) Do you have adjustable wattage/flow on your electrical fencing? Moses didn't seem too concerned with getting zapped. I'm saving up for some electrical fencing of my own but at three distinct heights and all of them to be adjustable, depending upon four-legged varmints and the two-legged.
This is off-subject but I am curious:
How do you and your folk in the area deal with thieves? I know we can't get too detailed here but I was just curious if you experience something we do on a regular basis here in the Pacific Northwest:
We often receive calls from "no one", just silence on the other end or a few background noises but they don't hang up first. When the weather gets particularly nasty and it's like driving around in a Slurpee or when Spring is here and the snow's melted so everyone's walking in gargantuan mud pie, that's when the local meth-heads up here (in VERY RURAL backwoods townships with populations in the low-hundreds), start their stealing of just about anything that ain't nailed down, from lawnmowers batteries to generators to fuel siphoning (cut filler necks or punctured & drained fuel tanks if locking gas caps are used) the usual TVs and stereos. We just found out the neighbor just across the road from us was broken into this afternoon by the local ne'er-do-wells. We MUST leave someone home at all times to answer the phone and we MUST keep motion-cameras and their SD cards reviewed for trespassers until we get a fence up...and most likely, even then. -
Patara you're surrounded by boys. Just wait until way in the future when your boys get married and then you will probably be surrounded by granddaughters! Love seeing the goats.

He's so cute.

Awe! He is like. " But I wanna go with YOU Mom!"

Its so cool how the goats and chickens get along. I hope to have some one day. Taking it slow. Getting acclimated to raising chickens first -16 that are 8mo. old. Loving it!
