This is an analysis of the effect of the new 1.8 Slime AI on the efficiency on current Slime farm designs. This still works in Minecraft 1.9 and later versions. Well with 1.9, couldn't you go with a magma block killing method? It doesn't destroy items, and you can just plop a minecart with a hopper under it running around

What entities affect the slime spawn rates? Only hostile mobs? Or do villagers, animals or item-frames have an impact too?

What if I have a quad slime farm (four slime chunks in a 2x2 formation)? Should I still build the AFK point 24 blocks away? And what if I make spawning platforms from Y=38 to Y=6? Should I build the AFK point at about Y=22?

I made a 15x15 room at y 5 and it didnt work in the slime chunk. This was in survival too RIP

Although I noticed that many of the links in the description are broken, including the link to my reddit thread (It's https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/2dzqlq/18_iron_golem_mechanics_make_for_great_slime_farms/).
Also, I think your tests results are affected by the fact that you're on a superflat world. Ever since 1.3, slime spawning is reduced on superflat worlds. This lowers your results across the board and makes the difference between designs less pronounced since they are all capped at ~320/floor. In a non-superflat test world, my new golem + cactus design generates 5600 items/hr for 700/floor/hr (and it's not quite as efficient as it could be either since currently the edges are incapable of spawning medium and large slimes). -
So I built a slime farm very similar to this on a server recently. The server is 1.9.2. Its a single chunk slime farm. It has 8 layers (0-39) and uses the water method of killing. After AFKing for an hour (24 m away) i got 6 slime balls. I cant figure out what is wrong. Slimes just simply don't spawn. Any ideas?
