WORLD DOWNLOADS (see below) First example of Y-under-14 hyper-efficient mob farm. (why Y-under-14? watch the video for explanation). This is a fifth episode in my series - 'Fun Farms', where I am taking one mob at a time and showing unique farms based around some interesting game mechanics. Ultra-efficient, Passive (Peaceful) Mob farm. 2000 Animals (180 Horses) for 5000 Spawning Spaces / hour but you can scale it up as long as your computer (server) is OK with it. Needs a little bit of TNT (I used 2 double chests in my world), otherwise, pretty cheap to build too. I guess as server friendly as flush based mob farm can ever be, but with 5000 spawning spaces I didn't encounter any dropped ticks (unlike with my previous 37k spaces design). CPU was spiking from 3% to 8% on the server (Vanilla 1.8.8) (max 12%, (8 core machine)) when the water was flushing (AMD old cheap-o processor). 1.9 Snapshots server had less luck (spikes up to max 12%, but no dropped ticks either). Should be better once the production 1.9 comes out. Preferable client: Optifine with water animations turns off (barely noticeable frame drops). Vanilla 1.8 client (no ability of turning water animations off) - significant frames dropped (up to 10FPS at occasion). Vanilla snapshot 1.9 client: no comments (1-2 fps). However - client performance doesn't affect server performance, so that's ok. Looking up into the sky while the farm is running fixes the issue. +Extra analysis of changes in natural spawning in Minecraft 1.8.8 based on MCP code base (MCP 9.18) (comparing to previous versions of Minecraft). It seems from the experiments, that it didn't change so far in 1.9. Modeling world to simulate mob spawning written in Python, rewritten from Java (MCP). This is so dense. This is like Minecraft Nietzsche. I had to pause and rewind repeatedly to let each part sink in.

A joy to watch its impressive cheers for the time spent ;)
-
Holy! This has... no it is the best minecraft tutorial I have ever seen!
-
love the video now I just have too make it in my world I have a mushroom island but it close too a jungle biome maybe a chunk away in some sports but I wanted too go down too bedrock anyways and I think I can flood the land and cut a bunch of trees down this is a brand new world nothing built yet or supplies but it should only take a day or too for supplies tho was going to 2 farms 16x16 about 8 blocks in the center now whats better grass or mycliumn it was the mycliumn blocks right now but I want rabbits and pigs sheep chickens

Wow! Im amazed by both the farm and the video! my favorite thing to do in minecraft is maximize efficiency in farm designs and you have certainly done that here! Ive been watching xisuma for a while now and he says lots of great things about your farms/videos and now i see why! Keep up the fantastic work! :p
-
I normally love math and computer logistics but I have no idea what's going on in this video ;P
-
The explanation was great but where is the actual building tutorial is there a world download about it? Please answer! xD

I built a passive mob farm based on your research and design on PS4 and, I must say, it works extremely well. with just 2 9x9 cells with 2 spawning floors I was able to generate 24 stacks of meat in an hour. since console has extremely strict breeding limits (70 passive mobs in loaded chunks and they will no longer breed) this method is the only way to get large amounts of meat in little time. this is also one to e that the console completely lacking any form of spawn chunks is actually a blessing. Thanks so much for your many contributions to the MC community at large.

What about the spawnchunks? Do they have to be spawnproof for passive mobs? Great work gnembon!

What can I do to improve the efficiency? I built two modules of this farm in a hole in the ground and have so far only seen one cow spawn, I've gone to spawn and killed all the animals I can find (Even using gamemode 3) and have removed all grass blocks around the farm. I plan on clearing some more air blocks around the farm, how far do I need to go? What else can I do?

amazing! all in 1 video.
usually I'll watch 20 videos on a particular project hoping to piece together the rules of what I'm trying to accomplish.
u r awesome, thank you for ur time:)
can I get the specs for a time travel device plz... when ever u get a chance;) -
I will put this to my important stuff list and sub to you. This video was beautiful.
-
Just a question to save my time. You talked about raising the Y level of the chunk. Is it necessary in the final product you did as a peaceful mob farm.
-
I love that with your research, you don't make assumptions, but test yourself what is and isn't true.
-
Great farm it is! BTW,Do Bedrocks increase LC Value?
-
How do you modify the game? :)
-
fantastic video and explanation. I'm just finishing my quad witch dig on ps4 and was looking for a passive farm to place inside the perimeter. this design is a clear choice to me. I will update you when it is finished and let you know the results in a Survival setting. with the increasing popularity of the console edition it would be nice to tag this design with "works on console."

Its sad that in 1.9 the portals lag as heck so passive mob farms are kinda broken. Awesome farm anyway
-
Wow, this changes everything for me!
-
A question: In the beginning, you increased the lc value when you stacked up with glass (the 1.7.10 clip), elluding that any non-air block above the farm will decrease efficiency - yet, In the end you show the staircase with wool and fenceposts above the farms - so I can have any transparent block above the farm then? and would that include water source blocks?
