Your girls are so precious kids are such a blessing. I've raised mine plus a few foster children, now I'm suffering from empty nest syndrome. When they were in their terrible teens I was looking forward to some peace &quiet when they left, never figuring I'd become depressed with an empty house. I did turn one of their rooms into our"doom room" floor to ceiling shelves filled with my home grown home canned food, it's awesome but sometimes I wish I could hear the racket of their music. Enjoy them!

80 cents a pound! That's half what I pay--nice find!
-
My Youngest eat more too.
-
regular multch is good and if you chip it twice it breaks down faster and helps with water retection and also compost like your rabbit rasians add worms to the compost it will be dam dark rich soil
-
those are some old bushes, used chicken wood shavings are what I use and mine do well.
-
sorry I meant your kids are cute lol..also we have blueberry and blackberry and strawberry bushes and vines it's good for making jams and pies.
-
Your are cute thanks for the vid. :)

Okay! I was wondering about the acidity. Must be it's too high. I just figured the deep layer of pine needles under pine groves kept things from growing (which is why the deep mulch method -- Back to Eden -- works so well with the weeds). Figures -- we have a free source of mulch and can't use it. ; ) Thanks for the warning.

noooooooooooooo dont use pine trees it will kill the ground look at pine trees in the woods nouthing grows under them for a reason they kill everything off

If you have a local wood shipping pallet factory try there, we have local factory that sells it very cheap, just a thought

Love it.This summer I took my 11 year old daughter for her first blackberry picking at a local U-Pick Farm, My daughter after picking her 2nd gallon of blackberries thought it was time to chase the local residents of the batch which were rabbits, quite comical and injoyable, she mainly bothered, never caught any, They would run away and stop then wait for her. We have a # of blueberry U-Pick Farms in SW La. When I was a kid we work the fence rows and ditches for blackberries.

It's not work when you make it fun, my Dad was a grouch that tried to make you do things so he could sit around on his lazy butt. When I take kids out to the farm we work together, we get filthy, we work like dogs and we laugh the whole time.

Well, I don't have a free source of wood chips and we don't have a chipper anymore. So. . . . Tim did do a major trim job on some of our pine trees and is talking about renting a chipper, so maybe I'll have enough fresh mulch for the (2) front beds this Fall. I'm wondering if the pine will make the mulch overly acidic though . . .

pssstt take wood chips and run them through chipper three times and mix in the garden soil along with yard waste leafs and so on bu sshhh thats a secret

Wow .80 a lb? We are paying 5.99 for a little green carton! What a fun time y'all had... Good memories for the entire family.

So glad to see that someone had blueberries this year. All of our wild blueberry plants died away this year in the drought. A few stragglers are out there, but there were no berries on them at all. I posted a video recently of the drought's effect on our berries, and showed our raspberries dried on the vine. Now our vines have all died away before we could prepare them for next year. Enjoy the fruits of your labor!

you probably didn't make the layer of mulch deep enough. This is my first year using wood chips and the garden is better than I have ever seen it. Keep adding to the garden all yard clippings, weeds (after composting in HIGH temps ~140F+) etc. Call around to tree trimming operations and scan craigslist for chips.

I love that the honor system is still in effect! Well, in some places. We don't have any around here in Nebraska that I've found. Gives high school kids a 'job' to sit and watch people. But I would be in heaven with all those blueberries!!

I love that they let you pick without standing there watching you. I've never seen a upick set up. I live in northern Michigan so there always road side honesty boxes. For corn cherries pumpkins and zucchinis. I love getting zucchinis! They're HUGE compared to the little ones at the grocery.
