Harry Smith examines the issue of cannabis in the workplace, as Colorado employers work to reconcile a more-open cannabis culture with workplace rules that enforce zero tolerance. The most touching parts of the documentary revolve around medical cannabis, in which Smith talks with families who have moved to Colorado because that’s the only way to get drugs they feel represent a last and/or best hope for their children. I work in a lab, and it should be noted that each drug testing procedure is under strict guidelines that must be followed exactly to ensure accurate results. quality control is performed daily, and statistical analysis is done on the results. If any part of the procedure is not followed exactly then the results are not admissible in a court of law. Just as a for instance the Calibrator that I use must be reconstituted using a glass pipette with the correct level of De-ionized water. however we do not purchase glass pipettes, we only purchase plastic pipettes. Thus our drug testing procedure and results are not admissible in a court of law, and are only used for diagnostic purposes by the physician. In such cases like, what did this John Doe overdose on... how do we get him to a point of full recovery the quickest and safest way possible so he lives to see another day?
Other testing Sites are connected to a court of law, and the chain of custody of the specimen is critical to prove the test is valid.
The lawyer can get a subpoena for the med technologist to testify about the testing procedure and If he uses the incorrect technique or the chain of custody is not documented for every exchange, the case is thrown out on a technicality. Lawyers love these wins. -
