Farms: Making & Cutting "Brig Niagara" 4/16 Soap Challenge-a soap about Erie, PA
Productivity | Information | History | View | Quality
I had so many ideas for a locally themed soap. Erie county has a rich history, as well as thousands of acres of vineyards and farmland. I thought of doing a wine soap featuring my favorite winery, or a farm bar with local milks, animal fat and produce. I ended up becoming inspired by a local landmark that is as much a part of Erie's history as it is my own childhood. I grew up on lake Erie and always used to see the Niagara out sailing. When she wasn't sailing, she was docked near our little boat on the bay at the foot of the city. I was about 10 when the Maritime Museum opened up and I got to take a tour. I still haven't sailed on the brig, but she does work as a training vessel for college age kids during the summer, to help preserve skill of sailing a tall ship as a crew. My daughter and I took a tour of the ship after I made this soap (Even though it was snowy! Typical April in Erie, PA folks!) I hope I did the Brig Niagara justice. Smart move making another batch! Worked out at just the right spot. :) Love your gorgeous soap and all the beautiful colors! Very elegant rendition of the Niagara...and the video of the ship was just icing on the cake! I love learning about all these wonderful places where you all live!

Awesome soap, it's brilliant how you got the embeds so perfectly positioned :)

All that work paid off! Beautiful soap

really cool. Great colors and concept. Wonderful!
-
Nice work and planning! The colors turned out super, and remind me of the sunset on the ocean behind the ship. Congrats! :)

It came out beautiful! I too was panicking along with you! LOL! I'm from Rhode Island and we visit Erie every summer. My in-laws live very close to Presque Isle and we've seen the Brig Niagara but never went on tour. I believe I read that Perry was from RI too. We love going to the beach and just visiting the park and going to Waldameer Park and Splash lagoon! I really enjoyed this video because it was somewhere familiar and for the soap too of course!

Fantastic GOOD SHOW!!!!!! Great Job! I had soooo much fun watching you make and cut this soap. Truly it was exciting!!! I cannot say that very often about soap-making videos as much as I love them. They are usually a mellow kind of thing but this had my heart pumping!! LOL Fun!!!! The colors are wildly wonderful! Truly and it DOES look like a ship (I especially like the water - I think that turned out really good) - although I do have to admit I'd need at least a subtle hint if had come across the soap with zero explanation all on it's own OR conversely a few minutes to think about it. But it is SUCH a gosh darn beautiful soap that I say hell's yeah you did the Niagra proud!!! I would be THRILLED with these results!! I think they will sell like hot-cakes - you'll likely be out before they are even cured! LOL Happy for you that it turned out so well and the top is just lovely as well!! Rock On! You Soap Goddess You!!! Yeah love happy endings! (I was worried for you there for a bit - gotta love a good drama! LOL) Happy Soaping! - Cynthia

WOW! Now that was an adventure!!! I panicked along with you and caught myself holding my breath as you laid down those first layers. I totally didn't expect your next layers to be thick enough because of the different consistency of the second batch. All the layers together though are SO perfect together, truly a beautiful sunset! I admired your messy and panicked workspace, true artistry in action! Little Tesla's camio appearance was a delight. The cutting. So easy and smooth and awesome. I really appreciate your new cutter! Love your Brig Niagara <3
