do you think this guy has any black friends?
-
is cannibalism a normal part of sustainable farming?
-
I wouldn't want to eat a chicken with maggots in it

@JUSTIN RHODES CHECK IF YOU HAVE RATS THEY DEVOUR BIRDS THE SAME WAY.

My girls would have burst out crying had they seen that bucket of dead chicks. Your kids are being well raised with an understanding of life, death and food. Yeah I said this already, but still impressed. Much to be said for a rural lifestyle that most North Americans would be unwilling to do in this day and age. Good on you and your wife for doing so.

I watched this video and thought wow that's a decent idea for food for chickens but then I got to wondering about the smell and how it would attract unwanted pests. That bucket is in your pen and its going to attract unwanted critters. How do you deal with that and why would you put your chickens in harms way?

The tf2 soldier would be proud of you

4:51 Your children are adorable! I think it is great the amount of time you get to spend with them. Once they get older, the opportunity to be the major impact in their lives is diminished. My daughter is 19 now. I spent every chance I wasn't working with her and my wife. However, I worked about 80 hours a week back then. Now she's grown and my wife passed away 2 years ago. The consolation is, my wife and I had a surprise pregnancy in 2007 and our son was born! I work at home now, and have raised him since he was a new born, my wife having been disabled from a stroke. Now he's in school, but we still spend a minimum of 8 hours together, and I cherish it! BTW, Thanks for the tip on the maggot bucket, that should really help my 9 chickens get some protein and not hurt my ever thin wallet! Love the channel! Best regards, MiF

Wasn't a crow or a hawk. I've had hawks kill. they take them completely off to eat. the crow was wanting to eat the left overs from the killer. I've had a opossum get one of mine. crows are mostly scavengers.
-
what kind of camera do you use?
-
dog or cat the crow would take one and fly away..... prob was there for the easy meal

i wish i grew up on a farm but i live in a town thats less then 50 miles from major cities

If "their heads got pulled off," it was probably an owl. The crow was just there for mop-up ops since it's not a predator. The Great Horned Owl is the likely culprit. Once they get onto your flock, the will keep it up, even during the middle of the day, as long as changes aren't made.

Your children are precious, You are so patient with them. I think you are a great instructor to Mr. Brown, God Bless you and your wife.

You are living the dream. Raising your kids in such a beautiful environment, love your videos keep it going.

Hey guys! I just butchered my first roosters over the weekend and I saved the guts and made a maggot bucket similar to yours. After I finished, I got a comment from a friend asking if I was concerned about botulism from the maggots. Also, I started worrying that the scent will attract predators. Any personal experience or thoughts? I'd love to hear from you, though I know you guys are very busy! Thanks! :)
