A 2,000-hectare piece of land on pristine Manitoulin Island is the new home of 24 Internet-connected GE 2.5MW turbines. McLean’s Mountain Wind Farm is a Northland Power project that brings renewable energy to the world’s largest freshwater island. When the turbine blades spin, generated power travels to the grid and services the local area first; the surplus is exported on high wind days. Using data generated from Internet-connected sensors on the turbines, GE and Northland work together. Data insights lead to proactive maintenance, less down time, and a more efficient wind farm.
