"Local Farms: from Brooklyn Rooftops to Navesink Estates" - Meg Paska and Michael Meier talk about how estate farming can transform the Two Rivers (Shrewsbury and Navesink Rivers in Monmouth County, NJ) region into a living example of sustainability and revitalized culture. Meg Paska and Michael Meier got their start in agriculture in Brooklyn, NY, of all places. Working as rooftop beekeepers and urban farmers, the two gained notoriety in the five boroughs for their trailblazing in the urban farming scene. Bees, chickens, rabbits, vegetables...if it was possible to grow in the city, Meg and Michael did not shirk the opportunity. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
