Dairy business even on commercial scale in India in general and state of Punjab in particular is no longer a sustainable or remunerative business for dairy farmers due to dominance of unethical middlemen in the value chain. Besides it due to ever increasing gap between farm gate price actually reaching the milk producers or that being paid to milk producers even by premier cooperative institutions like MILKFED) and price of pasteurized milk printed on milk pouch, dairy business is fast becoming unsustainable business activity for dairy farmers if they do not sell diluted/manipulated mixed milk. Under the prevalent situation and due to abnormal increase in milk production/processing/packing and distribution costs there is only one solution that we should evolve innovative concepts and develop cost effective green technology for milk processing and direct marketing of milk ( Cow To Consumer) through commercial dairy farmers as dairy business entrepreneurs.
