This video of old movies taken by one of my Uncles records a family company started by my grandfather, John H. Bailey, in the first decade of the last century. He started in his sawmill in Baileytown, NJ making baskets for the local farmers. His business, named JH Bailey &Sons, outgrew the sawmill and he moved it to Mauricetown in 1911, and later to Millville. Merges with several other basket companies resulted in a rename to Jersey Package Co. They had plants in Millville, NJ; Vineland, NJ; Bridgeton, NJ, and Berlin, MD. Finally, in the 60s, Georgia Pacific Company bought them out just for their timberlands and closed the factories. The video shows the company sometime in the 1950s and traces their baskets from cutting the timber to making and shipping the baskets. It includes an employee fishing trip obviously enjoyed by all, and ends with the burning of the Bridgeton plant.
