Jassar Farms Private Ltd. is a new Pakistan investment and the first in the Acumen Fund Pakistan agriculture portfolio. Jassar Farms Private Ltd. (JFPL) is a corporate dairy farming business focused on dairy and breed improvement of poor livestock farmers aiming to increase milk productivity. They achieve breed improvement in cows through artificial insemination using world-class, quality bull semen. However, small farmers in Pakistan are not able to access high-quality semen doses because the prices of these imported semen doses are too high. JFPL aims to establish a world class local semen production facility to produce top-of-the-line semen for the poor dairy farmers of Pakistan. The end product is priced keeping the poor farmers' affordability range in mind. The first calf -- named Savior -- resulting from Jassar's insemination efforts was born in early 2010.

What if I want to start a similar farm?. Are you willing to invest more in similar business idea in some other part of country. I have an agricultural land in Faisalabad, (About 10 acres) and thinking of starting a similar venture.

Thank you for your concern! Genetic engineering (GE)is the manipulation of the genetic code, so no GE has been used at Jassar Farms. The only method used (described in the video) is artificial insemination where high quality bulls inseminate local cows to produce higher milk yield. The bulls have gone through decades of selective breeding, therefore no element of GE is used. Once semen operations come online next year, the increased milk yield could cause tremendous social impact!

Gr8..but they seem to ignore how these genetically-engineered cows affect the children. In US studies have shown that children face the greatest risk..like fast-developing bodies, more susceptible to allergies, more susceptible to problems with milk, more susceptible to nutritional problems etc
