JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. Type 1 diabetes in children used to be known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes. Alternative Names of T1D: Insulin-dependent diabetes; Juvenile onset diabetes; Diabetes - type 1. Type 1 Diabetes - In type 1 diabetes, your immune system mistakenly destroys the cells in your pancreas that make insulin. Your body treats these cells as invaders and destroys them. This can happen over a few weeks, months, or years. When enough beta cells are destroyed, your pancreas stops making insulin, or makes too little insulin. Because the pancreas does not make insulin, insulin needs to be replaced. Insulin does not come in a pill. Aaron Gurley, JDRF board member organizes the Walk in his native town - Phoenix. According to Aaron, the Walk is a great social event which unites a lot of people with one single goal - to help JDRF research. Money, raised during the walk, really does help and the research progresses. The quality of life of T1D people has improved greatly with JDRF's research team help. The statistics of people, who live with T1D amazes. Aaron tells that through JDRF and Support groups he and his family has met a lot of great people. However, most of all they want a cure and to see their daughter healthy. Aaron and everyone who met T1D in their life will fight to the end to find the cure and do everything what is possible.
