Farms: Insurers And OEMs Discuss Vehicle Diagnostic Scans In Collision Repair
Productivity | Information | History | View | Quality
Mike Anderson, Collision Advice leads a panel discussion around the needs and requirements of pre and post repair scans in Collision Repair. Insurers: State Farm and Farmers OEMs: Audi, Honda, Toyota, Fiat Chrysler, Nissan, GM Vendor: Collision Diagnostic Services . "There is a lot of talk in the industry about whether or not it is necessary to scan every vehicle, pre- and post-repair. Do we really need to perform a calibration on vehicles such as Toyota or Honda? And what if it is not even occupied? Are there parameters to these items?" stated Mike Anderson, president/owner of Collision Advice. "Quite often the OEM's tell us in their repair information that we need to do these things, however insurers do not always pay for this work, and shops sometimes wonder if it is really necessary. This panel discussion is intended to educate all parties in the collision repair industry - insurers, shops, and technicians."

I think Chris from State Farm is being cheap that door on that Honda probably does have an air bag sensor in it he said just had a small dent in it and did'nt need to be scanned . WRONG!!!! The car should be scanned if hit any at all because any slight hit can change a seat position sensor if like Mendoza said just slapping a seat knocks it out of calibration . how will you know if it didnt change parameters if you dont scan . SAFETY IS FIRST!!! Insurers are all about money not customers SAFETY . They are only after a bottom dollar . Liability is to GREAT do the right thing scan the car even if for free . the customer being educated by the shop will eventually pressure the insurer to pay for scan

It is very simple, the insurer needs to "indemnify" their insured, to not scan is just stupid, as it protect the insurer from fraud, and the consumer claiming for things their not entitled. Why would the insurer not want to protect themselves, as well as establishing what has been damaged? the argument is a none starter for me, all the claims i deal with get pre and post on every job regardless.

great job, everyone! (especially Mike Anderson)

@21:15 are they saying if you slap the seat you need to recalibrate it? wtf.

I search oem data everyday all day long but through alldatacollision and then if no avail I take a short subscription to oem. I don't think my shop should be punished for not searching oem databases on a regular basis if it isn't needed. Body shops are brainwashed to think that if a problem exists post collision then a scan is going to be thousands of dollars in supplemental repairs and the dealership is the only avenue available for complex diagnostics.

I love this video! Thank you Collision Advice and Collision Hub!!! I do think it is funny how the insurance company representatives kept asking for specifics even after the OEM reps all had been very specific as to how the vehicles require scans.
