Farms: Inside Ohio's Largest Egg Factory Farm
Productivity | Information | History | View | Quality
In November 2004, Mercy For Animals investigators went behind the closed doors of Ohio Fresh Eggs, formerly Buckeye Egg Farm, in Croton, Ohio and emerged with shocking video and photographs that revealed the typical conditions inside a battery cage facility. MFA investigators discovered: • Hens with broken, damaged, and feces-covered feathers packed into battery cages so small they cannot spread their wings. • Hens whose beaks had been painfully seared off with a hot blade. • Hens suffering from bloody open wounds and untreated growths and infections. • Hens who had become immobilized without access to water when their wings, head, neck, or feathers became trapped in the wire of the cage. • Corpses left to rot in cages with birds still producing eggs for human consumption. • A hen with the skin of her neck pierced by a piece of sharp wire on the top of her cage. The hen's skin is shown slowly ripping off as the other hens jostle against her. • A live hen in a trash can, left to die among carcasses. The cruel conditions uncovered at Ohio Fresh Eggs are, sadly, all too common. Over a dozen undercover investigations at egg farms in Ohio, Maryland, Minnesota, and New Jersey have all uncovered similar abuses. These facilities are not "bad apples", but rather they represent accepted practices within the egg industry.

I'm not vegan, but it's very wrong to treat chickens like this. If you're gonna raise chickens for eggs/meat, care for them properly.

You cannot trust the fda... This is soo sad, hard to watch, harder to changer your life after watching
-
well this doesn´t surprise me. it´s enough for me to step outside my door and I see lots of retards treating each other bad. humans are probably the weirdest species which has ever lived on this planet.
-
Poor chickens, those humans should be out in those small cages and slaughtered like murderers they are.
-
Notice the cannibalism ? That's from the gross over-crowding. poor birds !
-
Close they down.....................heavily fine them and expose them for animal cruelty.
-
This company should be shut down

Question Why do we never see the outside of the building? There are no company logos or markings anywhere, that could prove to us that this is all taking place where they say it is. They need to film the walk from the farm entrance to the barns, it could be done without blowing cover, but I find it odd that the young lady was wearing a sweatshirt with Mercy for Animals on it if she was working undercover. I would think, that a shirt with these words emblazoned across it, would have every brutal and corrupt farm hand, rushing them in an attempt to prevent the exposure of the terrible conditions at the farm. The only possible three explanations for this that I can think of are, number one she kept it covered it up until they were alone, or number two they snuck in at night, or number four this is taking place in another country where the workers cannot read English, and the health standards don't matter. That is why it is so important to have an uncut video that shows the facility from gate to barn, with shots of signs on the premises that prove that it is indeed the Ohio egg company. For all we know this could be China, Mexico, or India. I will not say that it is impossible for it to be in the USA, but since the footage that could prove it has not been included how can we know that it is. Be careful of who, and what you put your trust in, when you have only watched one video or read one article. There are two sides to every story read them both before you choose your side or course of action. There are people who care for animals, and there are people who say they care, and they will play on your heart strings to use you for their own ends.

The pain and the stress in their eyes. How can people not see that animals are emotional creatures like ourselves and never deserve this? I'm horrified that these practices exist. There is no reason for anyone to ever eat an animal or their biproducts...and the state we reduce humanity to for factory farms like this to be legal is disgusting.

I don't understand how these hens can even lay eggs when they are so unhealthy. The egg quality would be very poor. Please stop buying store bought eggs and support small farmers that sell eggs in your own areas or even better ( if you can) raise your own hens and give them a wonderful and happy life, in exchange you're rewarded with an amazing experience of loving these girls and they will lay you healthy eggs.
