Farms: Indian nightmare: GMO killer-cotton (RT Documentary)
Productivity | Information | History | View | Quality
An estimated 290,000 Indian farmers have committed suicide in 20 years. Small farms used to be the country’s economic backbone, but now owners struggle to make even a meager profit and drown in debt. For some, the pressure is too much. Many blame GMO cotton for the failing farms, having cornered the market and replaced organic crops; they have failed to live up to expectations. Its not the GMOs its overexploitation of land, lack of water and overpopulation...

There was a huge protest by farmers in Brazil against GMOs.
Putin has said about his vision to make Russia world's largest organic farming country. I hope India follows Russian path. -
IN the year 2017 here in the USA we are getting GMO POTATOES:( America is now infested with GMOS, almost 80% of food products have GMOs in them. Our government is controlled by MONSANTO and big business, so yea, we have no rights about food safety in the USA. The sad part of it all is that the American population are very apathetic about GMOs, they don't seem to care or want to hear about it. the USA is a lost cost, so to all you out there in the WORLD please keep fighting to keep GMOs out of your country. Todays date is 11-07-16, I don't know how much longer I have to live since I to carry the GMO strain. Constant headaches, nose bleeds, terrible coughing, always lethargic. . . I am survivor 797999, peace out. . .

-
If Monsanto wants people to pay for their plants: THEN ALL THE NON NATIVE AMERICANS IN THE WORLD INCLUDING MONSANTO MUST PAY MY PEOPLE EACH TIME THEY PLANT A SINGLE CORN PLANT! FOR WE WERE THE ONES WHO CREATED CORN FROM A TINY GRASS!

Its Unfortunate to see how the crop that India was famous for is the one killing our farmers- thanks to one of the giants like Monsato. Our crops were great before this GM bullshit. We pissed off the British in the 19th century by using natural seeds. Its sad and our Govt needs to acknowledge this. I also see a product of Godrej called "Real Good Chicken" is now owned by majorly owned by Tyson. Thanks to this documentary and ones like Food Inc, I wouldn't have known about these two evil companies determined to ruin my country and its health.
-
that is so unfair, government should ban this and make way for different options through research or something
-
the situation in India is much worse than what is represented in this documentary and all this started when in 1990 India opened its market. The mainstream media is totally controlled by big corporate house and hence these news doesn't find any space. Young minds are trained only to follow the American dream. Government is an extension of the corporates .

Heartrending!

21:30 When it was local landlords that did this it was easy to see and identify the villains; now, GM corps are unreachable, can hire publicity managers who hound even internet posts with abuses, and banks hound poor farmers. The villains are too humongous and armed with falsehood.

He is right 18:00.

17:10 The kids are so cute! Nice hearing local languages unlike in western productions where their voices override.

+Here_We_Go_Again! re your post "India and China have gender imbalances due to the preference for male children, abortion and infanticide. " - while all those factors do exist, one important part was that played by each government. China enforced one child, so when it became possible people chose sons; India did not enforce but tried finding ways to encourage people towards less rate of growth and for a number of years it actually was government policy to encourage people to abort female fetuses, until serious concerns of social repercussions woke up government; by then the genie was out of the bottle!

6:52 clear that staments in posts re BT being solution are ads, and false. Blast the news channels for never once mentioning GM in context of thousands of farmers being forced to commit suicide, blaming it on politics alone as if subsidies could have solved anything! As for GM in general and Monsanto in particular, this many deaths on their heads, this many families ruined, they should not deserve even begging for food for survival!

India suicide rates have nothing to do with GMOs. The suicide rates among Indian farmers have always been consistently high. The most likely reason is that most farmers were urban folk and forced into it by the economy.
Anti-GMO retards try to push this narrative that Bt cotton is the reason why Indian farmers commit suicide by truncating the dates from the data to the year that Bt cotton was introduced. If you look at the data that precedes it, you will notice that the suicide rates were not lower prior to its introduction.
