Leslie Stoddard and Jenny Easly of http://www.gmofreeidaho.com go to Purple Sage Farms, one of the first Idaho Farms to be certified organic. Middleton, Idaho is home to this fabulous farm. We talked with family farmer Michael Sommers. On the farm they grow herbs, greens and they also raise grass feed free range sheep and goats. We talked with Michael about his Kombuca tea. It is a tea made from fresh organic herbs. Now they have started the Purple Sage Brewing Company. They sell the tea at the Boise Idaho Co-opp and the local farmers market. The farm hand cuts their herbs and use the sheep and goat manure as part of their compost. It is certified organic compost which is expensive...but they make their own. Making the tea depends on the compost and the compost depends on the sheep and goats. Michael tests for living cultures in their tea. Their is no mold in this tea...good kind of organisms. He makes basil, mint, stinging nettle, lemon grass and green tea kumbucha. Plus he is testing out some new varieties. The Sting Nettle and Lemon Grass are the most popular. The Stinging Nettle is unique and the Lemon Grass is a flavor people relate to. Michael's personal favorite is the Basil. Living organisms help the natural living organism of our body. You can improve you digestion and make your body healthy. The tea production is all local and done is small batches. They taste good with no additives. It is a whole product. Purple Sage Farms has been very supportive of GMO Free Idaho. They were part of our Food Rally. The brought fresh organic herbs and tea. To find fresh living food, Michael suggests http://www.idahosbounty.org/ online shopping for foods produced by Idaho farms. Artificial ways of producing things is scary. The dairies are pumping antibiotics in into the milk cows. The the put the manure into a settling pond that drains into our water table...so how many antibiotics do you think we are drinking. You have to find your alternative and the groups that will make organic and natural way survive. Thank you to Michael and your family for growing sustainable foods for the Treasure Valley. Thanks Purple Sage Farms for your time, input, and dedication to growing sustainable, non-GMO, and clean food for the Treasure Valley. Leslie Stoddard and Jenny Easly, Co-founders, GMO Free Idaho
