GREENE COUNTY -- Folks in Xenia Township spent Monday night, June 8, chasing pigs after a semi truck carrying thousands of hogs crashed on US 35, shutting down the highway. A semi carrying 2,200 piglets took a ramp too fast and overturned. The pigs in it tumbled out into the woods. We're told about 400 of them died in the crash. Dozens of first responders and farmers worked together to catch as many piglets as possible. Those were taken to the Greene County Fairgrounds in Xenia. At the end of the night some piglets remained unaccounted for. "There's quite a few pigs that got out and ran from the accident in the woods," said Dean Fox of the Xenia Township Fire Department. "I don't think we'll ever get all of them. I really don't. Well try as hard as we can but we probably won't retrieve them all." Due to overheating, a number of the piglets will have to be euthanized. ------------------------ EARLIER COVERAGE: More Than 2,000 Pigs on the Loose After Semi Accident in Xenia XENIA -- More than 2,000 pigs were on the loose Monday night after an accident on US-35 involving a semi.
